NFL Linebacker Retires After Selling a Rare Pokémon Card for $650,000
It is difficult to play in the NFL, and many players depart due to career-ending injuries or poor seasons.
However, after seven years in the league, Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Blake Martinez retired in the middle of the season for a different reason: He makes enough money selling Pokémon cards
He recently sold a very rare card for about $700,000—that he no longer requires the cash from playing.
Blake Martinez, a Las Vegas Raiders player, startled many fans last week when he announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 28.
He was first picked by the Green Bay Packers in 2016. Following four years with the Packers, he joined the New York Giants in 2020 before suffering a ruptured ACL in 2021.
He was released soon after and signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he appeared to be performing well this season.
